HUMISTON PARK
On Ocean Drive just 300 yards south of Rt60 / Beachland Blvd.
An Oceanfront park offering a large grassy picnic area with playground
equipment, covered tables, showers, boardwalk and life-guarded
beach.
Surfing is not allowed , but just South of
the Park there is a large strip of unguarded area, the break is not that
good, because the bottom is moderately deep in close and the reef acts as
a wave block, but it is popular with the Skim Boarders.
Divers love this area, it has reef within a
stones throw with 10 to 20 ft depths, You can swim over 4 different Reef sections,
This is also the location of the Brechnshire Wreck an old steam ship that
crashed on the 4th reef and got stuck between the 3rd and 4th reefs, depths
are 20 ft. and the boiler is visible on a calm day, it is a good long swim
out to the 3rd and 4 reefs, approximately 100 yards out. do not dive
this area if there is any wave action, the reefs are big with large open
cave like holes that one could get pushed up against in a strong surge. Visibility
along the Treasure Coast Sebastian to Stuart is very dependent
on the weather, requiring calm seas for at least a day, usually by
the 2nd day of calmness the visibility is usually 6 to 20 ft. depending on
the depths and bottom conditions. Lots of Fish and Lobster, plus Turtles
and Nurse Sharks. Note: Just Next door to Humiston is one of
the best Hotel resorts around, it is called the Drift Wood Inn and it literally
is made of Drift wood, it is also right off the Reefs mentioned above.
